This policy applies to information handled through the Probate Happens™ website, checkout, order delivery, recovery, and customer support.
1. Information we collect
- Contact and account information: such as your name, email address, phone number when you choose to provide it, sign-in information made available by the platform, and communication preferences.
- Order information: products, editions, quantities, prices, order status, transaction identifiers, purchase email, delivery status, and refund status.
- Payment information: Stripe processes payment-card information. Probate Happens receives transaction confirmation and related identifiers, but not your full card number.
- Download and security information: download time, product identifier, and a one-way security hash derived from network information to help protect purchased files and investigate misuse.
- Support information: messages and details you send when requesting help.
- Device-local information: the cart, journey progress, saved notes, guided responses, and certain preferences may be stored in your browser. This device-local information generally stays on that device unless you choose to submit it through a site feature.
2. Why we use information
We use information to operate the site; process and confirm orders; deliver and recover purchases; send receipts; provide support; prevent fraud and misuse; maintain security; honor preferences; improve the customer experience; meet legal obligations; and enforce our terms.
3. Service providers and disclosures
We disclose information as needed to service providers that help us operate the site, including Stripe for payment processing, website hosting and storage providers, authentication services, and an email-delivery provider for receipts and customer messages. These providers handle information under their own terms and privacy practices.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect customers or the service, investigate misuse, or complete a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards. We do not currently sell personal information for money or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. Cookies and browser storage
The site uses a secure, HTTP-only order-access cookie to reconnect a completed purchase with its download page. It also uses browser storage for cart contents, progress, notes, guided responses, preferences, and prototype demonstrations. You can clear browser storage through your browser settings, but doing so may remove local progress, notes, or cart contents. Keep your receipt email so support can help recover a purchase.
Optional Proby resource memory
Proby remembering is off by default. If you enable it on the Family page, this browser stores references to standard resource questions and resource links you open, plus the time saved. It does not store your original typed questions or estate details, upload those references, or sync them across devices. Anyone using the same browser can view saved resources. Answers use current reviewed wording; withdrawn or expired answers are not displayed. Items expire after 90 days and are removed when Proby next runs. You can remove individual items, delete all saved resources and turn remembering off, or clear browser site data. The remembering preference remains until turned off or browser data is cleared. Private browsing or storage restrictions may prevent saving. Earlier Family conversations are not imported.
5. Retention
We retain order and transaction records for fulfillment, customer service, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations. Support and marketing records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for their stated purposes. Device-local information remains until you or your browser removes it. Retention periods may vary when law, disputes, security, or legitimate operational needs require.
6. Security
We use measures designed to protect information, including hosted payment processing, signed time-limited downloads, access controls, and protected storage. No internet service can promise absolute security. Do not send Social Security numbers, full financial-account information, passwords, medical records, estate documents, or other highly sensitive material through ordinary email or general site forms.
7. Your choices and privacy rights
You may unsubscribe from optional marketing messages using the method provided in the message. Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information about how personal information is used. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information when required or permitted by law.
To make a privacy request, email help@probate-happens.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. Do not include sensitive identity documents unless we specifically provide a secure method.
8. Children
The website and products are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children under 13.
9. Updates and contact
We may update this policy as the service, providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
